About the Pop Art Machine
The PopArtMachine started from the idea that people have an inherent need
to tell artists the color of their sofa.
At every opening I have had, at least
one person will approach me and almost
confidentially say “our couch... in the living room... well it is an off
white salmonish beige with a touch of lilac.” Then they’d smile and
gaze into my eyes deeply as though they were trying to see if I saw what they
saw. For the most part I didn't see what they saw but I valued their vision.
So for every person who holds the color of their couch close to their heart
I give you the pop art machine. A chance for you to collaborate with the artist
and make decisions about the art you have in your life. Pop Art Machine is
a database
of imagery that I have created that can be combined and altered in an exponential
variety of ways. The machine will randomly generate an image which you can
make choices about giving you the ability to apply your vision to my vision
and together
we create a unique one of a kind piece of art.
As of this date there are over 1,587,200,000 (yep that's
billion) possible combinations of images that can be made on the machine.
If you are into what's happening here and would like to contribute images
to the database, have suggestion, ideas or you'd
like to just say hi contact us at info@popartmachine.com.
Also, we love to receive snap shots of pop art in action -- on your wall or
wherever it may be. Send us your photos!
I'd like to thank Luke
Kelly for donating
his time and energy to make this project happen. He's contributed hours of
valuable programming time to take an idea and make it a reality. I'd also
like to thank Dan
Jenkins for spending many thankless
hours prepping images to go into the database. Many thanks also go to the crew
at KDS Internet for providing
server space and bandwidth for this project.
For more information about the past, present and future of this project be
sure to visit the blog where you can find out about
new editions to the image database, future capabilities of the machine and
general ramblings about how
the idea has and is evolving.
