SUMMARY:Cartoon shows Republican presidential candidate, Wendell Willkie, pointing to three song and dance men, labeled "Hague, Kelly, [and] Flynn," standing on a platform labeled "Little Hitlers, Third Term Trio," all giving the Nazi salute. Another little man, labeled "Crump" says, "Gosh, he overlooked me!" In a campaign speech in October 1940, Willkie charged that President Roosevelt was trying to perpetuate his power and win an unprecedented third term "through petty Hitlers" who controlled the Democratic machines in the large cities, specifically alluding to Edward J. Kelly of Chicago, Edward J. Flynn of the Bronx, and Frank Hague of Jersey City. (Ed Crump of Memphis was not mentioned.)
