CALL NUMBER:CD 1 - Berryman (C.K.), no. 55 (A size) <P&P>[P&P] REPRODUCTION NUMBER:_ _ _ _ _ SUMMARY:Cartoon shows Steve Early, President Roosevelt''s press secretary, bringing the president a telegram reading, "Wallace Accepts." Roosevelt shows relief saying, "Thanks, Steve! Now I know where I stand." Berryman is probably being sarcastic. At the Democratic Presidential Convention in July, the nomination of Secretary of Agriculture Henry A. Wallace as vice president was so fiercely contested and so acrimonious that Wallace was persuaded not to give his acceptance speech to the convention. Six weeks later, he formally accepted the nomination in a speech at his home town of Des Moines. MEDIUM:1 drawing. CREATED/PUBLISHED:1940 Aug. 31.
