Public over the head with a club made from a rolled-up paper labeled "House Banking Committee''s Price Control Bill." Meanwhile two kidnappers, labeled "Wages" and "Farm Prices," make off with a terrified woman, labeled "Cost of Living," who screams "Help." In an effort to keep a lid on inflation, President Roosevelt had the House Banking and Currency Committee introduce a price control bill in the fall of 1941. Powerful farm interests almost immediately pressured the committee into including numerous exemptions for farm products.
