All one front, all one war CD 1 - Berryman (C.K.), no. 276 (A size)...

TITLE:All one front, all one war

CALL NUMBER:CD 1 - Berryman (C.K.), no. 276 (A size) <P&P>[P&P]

REPRODUCTION NUMBER:_ _ _ _ _

SUMMARY:World War II cartoon shows three determined-looking soldiers on the fighting front. Behind the lines are four quarreling politicians. Harrison E. Spangler, chairman of the Republican National Committee says, "He''s buying the soldier'' vote." Senate Republican leader Robert A. Taft cries, "You''re talking through your hats." Vice President Henry Wallace warns, "Watch the American Fascists!" Secretary of the Interior Harold Ickes says, "Don''t blame the New Dealers -- I''m the only one left." Although the tide appeared to have turned towards the Allies by mid-1943, partisan bickering on the home front continued. Wallace likened businessmen who did not support the President''s policies to "American Fascists," and Taft responded that people who believed this were "talking through their hats." Ickes protested that businessmen were slowing the war effort -- not braintrusters or New Dealers. Spangler accused Roosevelt, who had proposed providing mustering-out pay to returning veterans, of trying to buy the soldier''s vote. The cartoonist, on the other hand, in his caption, refers to a Roosevelt radio address in which he called for a unified effort, saying it was impossible to separate the fighting front from the home front.
