SUMMARY:Cartoon shows Senator Robert M. La Follette as a hypnotist, attempting to hypnotize Uncle Sam who roars with laughter. La Follette says, "Now can''t you see me in the White House?" and Uncle Sam responds, "Honestly, Bob, really I can''t." In 1924, La Follette defied his own Republican Party and ran for president as the candidate of a loose conglomeration of interests including the Progressives, the Socialists, farm-labor interests, and other disaffected groups. Presciently, Berryman suggests that La Follette hasn''t a chance, for the Senator carried only his home state Wisconsin in the November election. MEDIUM:1 drawing. CREATED/PUBLISHED:1924.
