His master's voice CD 1 - Shoemaker, no. 1 (B size)...

TITLE:His master''s voice

CALL NUMBER:CD 1 - Shoemaker, no. 1 (B size) <P&P>[P&P]

REPRODUCTION NUMBER:LC-USZ62-25304 (b&w film copy neg.)

SUMMARY:Cartoon shows a white dog with black spots (labeled "American Delegation in London"), standing on a bridge holding a small bone (labeled "American Welfare") in his mouth. In the water, he sees his reflection holding a very large bone (labeled "World Welfare Hopes"). In the distance, his master, President Roosevelt, calls out, "Whatever you do, don''t drop that bone." Both the caption and the picture refer to the well-known advertisements for the Gramaphone Company, RCA Victor, and others, showing Nipper, a white terrier with black spots, sitting next to a gramaphone horn, listening to "His Master''s Voice." The cartoon also alludes to the fable by Aesop in which a greedy dog with meat in his mouth sees his reflection in the water, and in trying to get the meat in the water, drops the meat in his mouth. In 1933, Roosevelt shocked the world when he instructed the U.S. Delegation to the London Economic Conference not to agree to international currency stabilization which he feared would block his plans to depreciate the dollar.
