Warnin to all Dogpatch bachelors -...TITLE:[Li''l Abner.] Midnight madness. Warnin to all Dogpatch bachelors - Sadie Hawkins Day comes on Nov. 6thCALL NUMBER:Unprocessed in PR 13 CN 2001:055-4 [item] [P&P] REPRODUCTION NUMBER:LC-DIG-ppmsca-07920 (digital file from original drawing) SUMMARY:Three-panel comic strip shows Li''l Abner, confident that Daisy Mae will never catch him in the next Sadie Hawkins Day race. He predicts that he will be "as far outa her reach as -- as -- as them stars!!" He is horrified, however, when he looks at the sky, to see the constellations are in the shape of a girl catching a man. In 1937, Capp introduced Sadie Hawkins Day, the day that any woman could marry any bachelor she caught before he crossed the finish line. It was so popular, he repeated it every November. Each year, Li''l Abner barely managed to escape matrimony until 1952, when the two were finally wed.
